Today, wine is on our mind. Perhaps, it’s because we’re busy planning our our trip to Northern California (squeal!) — or perhaps, it’s because we’re on the hunt to find the perfect summer wine. You know, the one that pairs perfectly well with our summer barbecues; the humid summer days; the “hi, I need a drink” moments. Yes, that one exactly. Although, we’d like to narrow it down to one miracle wine, we’re not that lucky (or maybe we are lucky, since there’s always more research to do). Instead, we have three summer wines for you today that are here to cool you down.

Chateau Miraval 2016, Rosé Provence $22

When I think of summer, I think rosé and I think I need a glass of rosé in my hand. Who’s with me on that?  Recently, I was turned on to Chateau Miraval Rosé from Provence and I’ve been swirling it in my glass ever since. This is the wine that has gained celebrity status (Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie helped get this one off the ground), but don’t let that deter you. Pick up a glass and you’ll get a taste of summer that’s bursting with red berry notes and floral essences that is crisp and bright. It’s perfect to drink by itself or to pair with tomato-based dishes like gazpacho or a caprese salad or anything avocado.

Crowded House 2016, Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough $20

Get close to nature with a bottle of Crowded House, Sauvignon Blanc. This New Zealand wine brings grassy undertones and citrusy notes that are means for planning an outdoor picnic. Pack up some ceviche, a vegetarian quiche or grill up some fish tacos with a tropical fruit salsa and you will have found yourself a perfect pairing. This wine is crisp and balanced and works extremely well to cool you off in the humid temperatures.

Fortress 2013, Cabernet Sauvignon. Sonoma County $25

If you’re looking for a summer red that will pair well with your carnivorous cravings, pick up a bottle of the Fortress Cabernet Sauvignon (83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petit Verdot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 2% Syrah & 2% Merlot). This layered wine offers hints of dark fruits (think – black cherries and raspberries) and dark chocolate, medium acidity and an earthy finish of blackberries and tobacco. Pair this with a luscious steak for ultimate enjoyment.
