What happens when you get invited to go out for stone crabs and rosé? You happily accept, especially when it means a trip to Point Royal at the Diplomat Beach Resort in Hollywood. This seafood-centric restaurant, brought to you by Celebrity Chef and Food Network Star Geoffrey Zakarian, features Coastal American Cuisine in a chic setting. While he’s not at the restaurant everyday, sometimes he’ll make a surprise visit — like he did on our last trip into the restaurant.
While running into Geoffrey Zakarian was an added bonus, just visiting Point Royal is a treat in itself — and it is sure to satisfy your seafood cravings and — did we mention they have stone crabs? On our visit, it was an all-you-can-eat stone crab bonanza, where the restaurant generously donated 25% of the proceeds to the Glam-A-THON™ benefiting the Broward Health Foundation’s Lillian S. Wells Women’s Health Center. It always feels better to eat for a cause.
Since you can’t just eat stone crabs — we thought that we’d try a few other dishes — and the night just kept getting better. Here are some of our favorites:
Stone Crab Claws because well, they’re stone crabs, and they’re perfect every night of the week.
These lightly fried crab croquettes bring you all the crab without the fillers — and with a squeeze of lemon and remoulade sauce, they’ll bring you all of the joy in the world.
Since I’m a mussels fanatic, mussels (almost always) come out on top — and Point Royal’s mussels are spot on. They are plump (some of the largest I have seen) and come served in a white wine broth with garlic, dijon, and crème fraîche. Add in some grilled sourdough bread for sopping up the broth – and you have a delight to your palate.
If you’re looking to splurge, may we recommend the seafood platters. These platters range in size from The Hollywood (4 Oysters, 4 Clams, 4 oz King Crab and 3 Shrimp) to the Point Royal Tower (6 Oysters, 6 Clams, 6 oz. Blue Crab Claws, 6 Pink Shrimp, Whole Maine Lobster, 16 oz. Alaskan King Crab) — and all are sure to impress.
