Dishcrawl Comes to South Florida

The traditional pubcrawl has turned gourmet with the introduction of Dishcrawl. This national organization unites culinary enthusiasts for an evening of restaurant exploration — and they’ve just entered into South Florida. The kick-off event took place on March 12th, as a group of hungry  restaurant-goers took on Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach — and crawled to 4 of the area’s most-popular venues. Part of the fun of a dishcrawl is that it remains a mystery to all in attendance — and attendees put that evening’s meal in the hands of the event organizer. Attendees know that they’ll be visiting 4 restaurants over the course of the evening, but they don’t know which restaurants they will be. That is, until they receive notification of their meeting place just 48 hours before the event.

For this inaugural event, Vic & Angelo’s was stop #1. Guests gathered at the bar and introduced themselves to others sporting a Dishcrawl nametag — and their dining companions for the evening. For this first event, there were nearly 50 in attendance. The dishcrawlers made their way to the long tables in the back of the restaurant and mingled with the group — and awaited a plate of Italian goodness. Vic & Angelo’s served up a sampling of some of their signature dishes — Calamari Fritti, a meatball and a chicken wing.

The group gathered up their things  and headed across the street, as The Office was stop #2. Chef Omar mingled with the crowd and presented us with some of his favorite dishes — and even got a taste of the new menu recently released at The Office. A pulled pork taco, The Office Ceviche and a truffle deviled egg were quickly eaten up by the guests.

A trip to Dada brought us a trio of Chef Bruce Feingold’s signature — the ever-famous bacon wrapped stuffed date coupled with tuna tartare and a crawfish crudite — and the group’s final destination was Tryst.

Chef Julien took one of his favorite beverages — craft beer — and melded it together beautifully with more traditional ingredients in a trio of sweets treats. Banana Beer Bread Pudding, Raspberry Lambic Ice Cream and a Chocolate Pot de Creme with Espresso Stout was the perfect ending to the evening.

If you’re a lover of restaurants and trying new places — but didn’t make it out to this event — you’ll be happy to know that Dishcrawl doesn’t stop in Delray. The group’s ambassador, Katie Myers, is busy planning more foodie adventures for you to enjoy. Next stop — Las Olas on Tues., April 9th. For more information, visit Dishcrawl Fort Lauderdale online.
