AFROHEAD Rum Cocktail Class at Repour Bar

The Repour Bar at the Albion Hotel Miami Beach held a cocktail class, featuring AFROHEAD premium aged dark rums, which was led by the bar’s mixologist and AFROHEAD brand ambassador, Isaac Grillo.

Made on Harbour Island in the Bahamas, AFROHEAD rums – 7-year-old Briland 07 and 15-year old XO, are aged in once-used, charred oak bourbon barrels. AFROHEAD’s Briland 07 has a silky smooth flavor of burnt toffee and notes of toasty oak and honey. Its smooth finish makes it versatile for mixed drinks.

The drier and complex AFROHEAD’s XO is a blend of 15-year old rums, with tobacco notes and hints of vanilla. XO finishes long, which makes it perfect for sipping.

Isaac Grillo demonstrated three types of cocktails, –Fresh, Smoky, and Stirred. Fresh cocktails are made with seasonal fruits and fresh juices that are shaken or poured over ice. The sweet, frothy and grapefruit-infused Hemingway Daiquiri (see recipe below) is an example of the Fresh cocktail.

To represent a Stirred cocktail, Grillo produced a velvety Perfect Manhattan which is slowly chilled by stirring with ice, while his smoke-infused Old Fashioned embodied the Smoky cocktail.
