National Peking Duck Day Miami Dining Options

Celebrating Peking Duck Day, on January 18, in Miami involves making a hard choice from many fine Asian restaurants. Menus feature the classic whole bird roasted or jerk marinated as well as in a steamed bun or with soba noodles.

In North American, the Long Island duck best resembles China’s especially-bred white Pekin duck.  The Chinese revere crispy duck skin and their preparation of this richly flavored bird is legendary.

During the late Ming Dynasty, roasted duck was one of the main dishes on the imperial court’s menu. After scalded in boiling water, the duck is glazed and roasted in a hung oven until it turns shiny brown. Later, the popularity of Peking Duck spread to the Chinese upper classes, and, evidently, to restaurants.

Here are select Miami restaurants showcasing their creative preparation of this delicious dish:

At Setai’s modern Asian restaurant, Executive Chef Mathias Gervais and Executive Sous Chef Vijayudu Veena have collaborated to create a Peking Duck Degustation Menu ($95 pp) showcasing Maple Leaf Farm’s White Pekin duck in a five-course dinner.  The duck specialties will be prepared in its very own dedicated kitchen with an exhibition window for guests to watch the cooking process.

Menu highlights include Peking Duck Bao wrapped in bamboo leaves with tangerine marmalade and bok choy, Peking Duck Consomme with poached egg, enoki mushrooms and scallions and truffles with duck bacon and chocolate.

The special menu’s dessert course is Pecan Bread Pudding – topped with warm Bourbon Whisky Miso Caramel and served with Honey Banana Gelato. In addition, the celebration dinner includes two tiny sweets, or Mignardises (pronounced min-yar-DEEZ), – Duck Bacon & Chocolate Truffles and Brittle made with Duck Bacon and Smoked Almonds.
