Miami Spice Review of Red, the Steakhouse

Miami Spice Month, from August 1 –September 30, is a great opportunity for locals and visitors to try fine dining restaurants with affordable fixed price three-course dinners at $39, plus beverage, tax and gratuity.  Red, the Steakhouse –Miami Beach deserves a spot on your must-try list.

Red, the Steakhouse, in the SoFi, or ‘South of Fifth’ neighborhood of Miami Beach, is celebrating Miami Spice Month with four themed menus. Each week, in the months of August and September, Chef Peter Vauthy is highlighting the steakhouse’s fare that extends beyond great steaks.

Invited to preview RED’s Miami Spice menus, I learned that where there’s turf, there’s surf, and Chef Vauthy does not disappoint with either. Plus, absolutely save room for desserts by Andrew Moss, the Red’s Executive Pastry Chef.

On each of Red’s weekly Miami Spice menus, there are multiple options, plus a choice of upgrades, for your main entree. However, if you have a table of meat lovers, consider forgoing individual second course choices, and opt for the Dry Aged C.A.B. (Certified Angus Beef ) Prime Tomahawk, 24 or 48 ounce, instead.

The humongous and juicy Prime beef chop, on a super long bone, arrived perfectly prepared medium-rare, and simply seasoned with kosher salt, peppercorns and brushed with garlic.

Enjoy this red meat feast on Week 1 – Classic Steakhouse Menu, with the Spinach Salad – baby spinach, chopped hard-boiled egg and dressed with an outstanding bacon and Vidalia onion vinaigrette that will wow you!

If visiting on Week 2 for the Seafood Menu, consider upgrading your first course to 4 ounce house-made Burrata with red and yellow heirloom tomatoes and dressed aged balsamic, which definitely should be followed by the Flash Fried Snapper.

The succulent fish came with a nice crust, thanks to the flash fry technique, and in a seriously delicious, sweet and spicy Coconut Curry with Vegetable Slaw.

Do upgrade to the decadent Bacon Pecan Monkey Bread topped with Maple ice cream and caramelized bacon bits, with a side of over-the top caramel-bacon dipping sauce.

If you love Italian, reserve Week 3, and order Red’s House Made Meatball, a special blend of Angus beef and veal, served with whipped ricotta and red sauce. Then, elevate your second course to the Italian Black Truffle Risotto.

Week 4 features Red’s Greatest Hits Menu. A first course must are the Bacon Wrapped Tater Tots. Four fried tots arrived gift-wrapped in bacon and filled with surprisingly moist shredded potato, and a yummy side dipping sauce of creamy and chunky tomato bacon aioli.

Do convince your dining partner to upgrade their starter to the BBQ Pork Belly.  Red’s delectable house-made barbeque sauce glazed the tender pork belly morsels, which were served alongside a spicy BBQ slaw.

As a main, go classic with Red’s Petite Filet Mignon served with fluffy whipped potatoes and fresh broccoli seasoned with garlic.
