Deconstructing Dinner – A Fresh Documentary Mini-Series on Food

Take a trip behind the scenes of the North American food industry with the new mini-series called Deconstructing Dinner. This six episode HD series for TV and the web bring together host Jon Steinman (of the syndicated Deconstructing Dinner radio show and podcast) and 2011 James Beard Award winning filmmaker for Milk  War, Declan O’Driscoll. During the series, the audience will learn what happens behind the scenes of industrial, artisanal and farm-to-plate food production in hopes that you will have a new perspective on food by the time the series is over.

Each episode will focus on one key ingredient (such as garlic, wheat, eggs or honey), how it’s produced -both industrially and artisanally — and it’s impact on the local economy, the environment, community and health of the community. A leading chef will be featured during each episode, and the audience will be challenged to look at how they interact with food and learn what changes they can make in their kitchens and community to improve the situation. Each episode will be accompanied by online resources like behind the scents footage, recipes and tips from leading chefs.

Featured chefs include Michael Stadtlander from Eigensinn Farms in Ontario; Michael Anthony from Gramercy Tavern (recently awarded Best Chef in NYC at the 2012 James Beard Awards); Heather Carlucci from Print (NYC), listed among the Top 10 Pastry Chefs in America by Dessert Professional Magazine in 2011; and more.

Right now, they are still look to raise some money for the project’s production and they’ve launched an online fundraising campaign via Kickstarter. Their goal — $60,000 by July 20. For more information or to donate, visit Kickstarter online.
