We'll admit, we don't do Greek restaurants too often, but when we learned that Chef Brian Cantrell had taken over the kitchen at Thasos, we were first in line. We met Brian back when he was at A Fish Called Avalon and he wooed us over with his seafood-centric menu. Since that time, he spent some time at Prime Italian (yes, owned by the same team that owns Prime 112) and now he's made his home at Thasos Taverna in Fort Lauderdale.
Thasos is a modern, chic, upscale restaurant located on the corner of Oakland Park Blvd and Federal Highway. The interior is all white, from the tables to the bar to the walls -- and bursts of color arise throughout the evening.The menu offers a blend of authentic Greek dishes, combined with a modern twist on tradition. When we first glanced at the menu, we wanted to order one of each, but opted for the grilled octopus -- one bite in, we knew we'd be back, as this was perfection on a plate.
For this event, we will be doing a wine tasting -- and trust me when I say, he'll treat us well -- I believe this is our 4th event with him. We'll taste our way through 4 wines and get a sampling of the menu.
